Introduction: The association between depression and brain systems has received both theoretical and empirical support. However, less is known about the behavioral brain systems and postpartum blues in this relationship. This research investigates the role of neuropsychological structures in postpartum blue: According revised reinforcement sensitivity theory.
Methods: The present study was a descriptive correlational research. Study population included all referred females who diagnosed as mothers with postpartum blues in health centers of Mashahd city during 2018. A total sample of172mothers with postpartum blues selected with Multi-stage cluster sampling method. The participants completed brain behavioral systems Scale and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale. Collecteddata were analyzed by a stepwiseregression model.
Results: The results showed that the behavioral inhibition system has a positive and significant relationship And behavioral activation system had a negative and significant relationship with postpartum blues in alpha level (0.01).The results also indicate that 15% of the variance of postpartum blues is explained by behavioral activation system and 10% of its variance can be explained by behavioral inhibition system. These two variables are the strongest predictors of postpartum blues.
Conclusion: In order to conceptualization postpartum blues disorder, we need to consider the role of behavioral inhibition system.
