The Effects of Emotional Intelligence Items Training on Increasing Emotional Intelligence in Hemodialysis Patients

Introduction: Hemodialysis due to Physical, psychosocial and lifestyle disturbances. Emotional intelligence is a set of abilities and skills that prepare people for the sustainability and success in life, that can be taught. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of emotional intelligence training lecture in hemodialysis patients in the city of Khorramabad Methods: This semi-experimental study was administered on 74 patients who had been consulted to go to the hemodialysis wards of Khorramabad hospitals during the year 2014. The patients were randomly divided into two groups the experimental and control groups. The emotional intelligence training was given by the trained and skilled researchers to the experimental group for two months and within 8 sessions. The data collecting devices consisted of two sections including demographic data, and Bar-On's emotional intelligence questionnaire filled out by the researcher's assistant through interviewing with the patients. Data analysis was conducted by applying the SPSS software using statistical tests such as independent and paired t-test. Results: The subjects consisted of 58% males, 42% females, 66% married, and the rest were widowed and divorced. The age mean was 49.7± 10.8 years, and the mean of hemodialysis duration for the patients was 3.48± 2.22 years. Before training intervention, the independent t-test indicated that there was no difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of the amount of emotional intelligence in the hemodialyzed patients, but this amount increased in the experimental group after the training intervention in comparison to before the intervention 295/08±18/16 to 304/898±15/06 (p=0.01). Conclusion: The results showed that training an improvement in the emotional intelligence of the hemodialysis patient, interpersonal relationship, stress Tolerance, problem solving, flexibility and happiness Therefore, it is recommended that emotional intelligence training be implemented for the abovementioned statistical community as a strategy for better adaption.
