The effect of cognitive behavioral therapy on happiness and mental health in patients with type II diabetes

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common chronic patients which produce lots of limitation in patients' activities. Therefore in the recent years, promote happiness and mental health of these patients regarded by therapists. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a one common method to promote happiness and mental health. This research aimed to investigate the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy in improving happiness and mental health in patients with type 2 diabetes that referred to health care center of Varamin city. Methods: This study was a queasy-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design. The statistical population included patients with type 2 diabetic that referred to health care center of Varamin city. From them 40 woman and man patients with type 2 diabetes were selected by simple randomly sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups. The experimental group 10 sessions of 70 minutes educated by cognitive behavioral therapy. All of groups completed the questionnaires of happiness and mental health as the pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed with using of SPSS-19 software and by multivariate analysis of covariance and analysis of covariance methods. Results: The findings showed average of happiness and mental health before and after intervention had a significant difference in the cognitive behavioral therapy and control groups (P<0/05). On the other hand cognitive behavioral therapy led to significant increase happiness and mental health. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that cognitive behavioral therapy method can increase happiness and mental health in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, counselors and therapists can use this method for improve the happiness and mental health of this patients. In addition, suggested planners design programs to improve the happiness and mental health of patients with type 2 diabetes.
