Introduction: The individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder may have difficulty in social adjustment with others, and appropriate therapy can improve their social adjustment. Therefore, the present study aimed comparison of the effectiveness of schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy on social adjustment in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder. Methods:The research method in this study was semi–experimental design and pre-test, post-test, and forty-five days follow-up with a control group. The statistical population included all individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder referred to psychological centers in Tehran in 2024. Among them, 60 individuals were selected based on the entry criteria and by convenience sampling and simple randomly were assigned to 3 groups (20 people). The first experimental group received the schema therapy in 8 sessions of 90 minutes, the second experimental group received the acceptance and commitment therapy in 11 sessions of 90 minutes and the control group was in the waiting list. The research instrument included the Bell Adult Adjustment Inventory. The obtained data were analyzed using repeated measure of variance analysis and Bonferroni post hoc test in SPSS. 23. Results:The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental groups and a control group;and both schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy interventions reduced social adjustment scores in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and the effect of these therapeutic interventions in the follow-up phase has been stable (P<0.05). Also, the results of Bonferroni post hoc test showed thatthere was no significant difference between the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy intervention and schema therapy interventionon the social adjustment variable (P<0.05). Conclusions:According to the research findings, it can be concluded that schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy interventions can be effective in improving social adjustment of individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder; and it is recommended that therapists and counselors use these therapeutic methods for improve the social adjustment in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
