Introduction: Conduct disorder, as one of the most common behavioral disorders in childhood and adolescence, has adverse effects on the individual's social functioning and academic progress. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of positive parenting training and parent behavior management training on academic resilience, and symptoms of children with conduct disorder signs.
Methods: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The statistical population included all mothers of children with conduct disorder symptoms in Karaj during the 2024-2025 academic year. Using purposive and voluntary sampling, 45 mothers of children with conduct disorder symptoms were selected and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Data collection tools included the Academic Resilience Scale (Martin & Marsh, 2008), and the parent form of the Achenbach Behavior Problems Questionnaire (2001). Data analysis was performed using SPSS.v26, employing multiivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) and Bonferroni post hoc tests.
Results: The results showed that both positive parenting training and parent behavior management training had significant effects on improving academic buoyancy (p < 0.05) and reducing conduct disorder symptoms (p < 0.05). However, positive parenting training demonstrated significantly greater effectiveness in enhancing academic buoyancy compared to parent behavior management training (MD = 1.937; p < 0.01). Both interventions were equally effective in reducing conduct disorder symptoms (p > 0.05).
Discussion: These findings suggest that although both approaches are effective in addressing behavioral problems in children with conduct disorder, positive parenting training shows notable superiority in communicational and academic domains. Accordingly, for children presenting with conduct disorder symptoms accompanied by academic underachievement, positive parenting is recommended as the primary intervention, with behavior management serving as an adjunctive strategy.
