Introduction: Anxiety has an effective role in the individual and marital performance of individuals; accordingly, implementing psychological interventions in these individuals is necessary. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of emotionally focused therapy on emotional expressiveness and sacrifice motives in married women with high anxiety.
Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group with a two-month follow-up period. The statistical population of the study included married women with anxiety symptoms referring to counseling and psychological service centers in Ahvaz in 2025. The selection of samples was carried out by purposive sampling method and 50 of them were selected and placed in two experimental groups (25 people) and control (25 people) by simple randomization method. In order to conduct this study, the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Emotional Expressivity Questionnaire (EEQ), and Perception of Sacrifice Measure (PSM) were used. The experimental group underwent individual intervention during nine 45-minute sessions. Data analysis was performed using repeated measures analysis of variance.
Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the groups in the variables of positive emotional expression (F=8.70, P=0.01), intimacy expression (F=13.88, P=0.01), negative emotional expression (F=9.07 P=0.01), avoidance motives of sacrifice (F=10.06, P=0.01), and receptive altruistic motivation (F=13.52, P=0.01) (P<0.05).
Conclusion: In general, it can be concluded that emotionally focused therapy has an effective role in increasing emotional expressiveness and receptive altruistic motivation, and in contrast, it has an effective role in reducing avoidance motives of sacrifice compared to the control group.
