Introduction: Delirium is significant fluctuations in cognitive impairment between patients, especially of the patients admitted to intensive care units in a short time and it can take between a few hours to a few days. This study aimed to investigate the effects of multifactorial interventions on the incidence of delirium in hospitalized patients, and this was performed in the intensive care unit of heart surgery.
Methods: This clinical trial study was performed on 96 patients admitted to the ICU cardiac surgery in the Bu-Ali hospital in Qazvin in 2015. Patients were selected by convenience sampling in both intervention and control groups. First The 48 patients in the control group were evaluated for incidence of delirium. After releasing the last one in the control group, Interventions were conducted and Sampling was carried out with 48 patients in the intervention group. Multifactorial intervention included three components of the professional, environmental and related to client. Demographic questionnaire about patient was completed in the day before the surgery . It was completed in the control group from first day and for the intervention group up to the fourth day from the moment of intubation after RASS (Richmond agitation-sedation scale) scale to determine the level of agitation and calm patients Richmond tool to determine the level of agitation and calm patients was completed Because one of the inclusion criteria was the lack of consciousness 5- and 4- on a scale RASSand Neecham (Neelon & Champagne confusion scale) scale to Evaluation of confusion and delirium. For data analysis, descriptive statistics for tables and indexes such as mean and standard deviation to describe the demographic characteristics such as age, sex, education level and occupation, as well as statistical analysis (chi-square, t-test, Fisher and regression analysis) was used (SPSS: 18).
Results: The incidence of delirium (mild or severe (was obtained 4.2% in intervention group and 10.4% in control group.
Conclusion: Multifactorial interventions can reduce the incidence delirium in cardiac surgery patients in intensive care unit.
