Abstract

Introduction: Post-natal depression is a mood problem that has adverse effects on parents, leading to impaired cognitive development and poor communication between parents-child. The purpose of this study was to assess postpartum depression in young mothers and fathers. Method: this descriptive-analytical study was performed with convenience sampling on 150youngmothers and fathers who were referred to Saqqez health centers, Sanandaj, Iran in 2013. Data was collected with demographic information form and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. Data were analyzed by PASW statistical software using descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, Fisher's exact test, chi-square, independent t- test. P-value less than 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: the results showed that 27 fathers (36%) and 37 mothers (49.3%) had symptoms of postpartum depression and two groups of depressed parents are not significant different. There was an association between depression and employment (p=0.003), so that all unemployed fathers were depressed (p=0.04) and all employed mothers (p=0.001) have not depressive symptoms. There was no relationship between depression and education. Conclusions: Given the high prevalence of postpartum depression in young fathers, holding training classes, emphasizing the issue of postpartum depression and management of this critical stage in fathers seems to be necessary.

Abstract

Introduction: The families of caregivers of patients with mental illnesses have numerous stresses, experience moderate to high burden, and often receive inadequate professional support from the mental health team. Effective family functioning in these families may be influenced by a variety of psychosocial factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between social support and general health in family caregivers of patients with mental illnesses.

Methods: In this correlational study, 199 family caregivers of patients with mental illnesses were selected by convenience sampling from Farshchian Psychiatry Hospital in Hamedan, during year 2015. The data were collected using demographic, Fillips Social Support, and General Health questionnaires. Data were analyzed by descriptive and spearman regression correlation.

Results: the results indicated that social support in 45.7% of the subjects was undesirable and general health in 89.9% was weak. There was a significant relationship between these 2 variables (P = 0.001). The friends interfering domain was more undesirable than the other domains of social support. Individual life health domain was weaker than other domains of general health. The supportive interfering domain from the general health domains had the greatest correlation with social support (P = 0.001).

Conclusions: General health was related to social support. Thus, altering the policies with the objective of increasing social support, especially for the family of caregivers of patients with mental illnesses, could result in the promotion of their health and well-being.

Abstract

Introduction: Marital conflicts are inevitable, though they are considerably reduced through training and development of social skills. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of integrative behavioral couple therapy on the sexual intimacy and marital burnout of the couples with marital conflicts.
Methods: This was a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study with a control group and was applied in terms of purpose. The statistical population consisted of all couples with marital conflict in Sanandaj City (30 couples) from March 21 to September 22, 2019, that were divided into two experimental and control groups, each of 15. Batlani's sexual intimacy questionnaire and Pinez' marital burnout questionnaire as the research instruments were completed by the subjects before and after the intervention. The reliability of the questionnaires was assessed by the Cronbach's alpha as 0.88. The experimental group was provided with ten 90-min sessions of integrative behavioral couple therapy training, one session per week for two months; however, the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed by MANCOVA and one-way MANCOVA.
Results: Data analysis showed that integrative behavioral couple therapy significantly improved sexual intimacy and reduced marital burnout of couples (p <0.001).
Conclusion: Integrative behavioral couple therapy as an effective intervention increased sexual intimacy and reduced marital burnout of couples.
