Abstract

Introduction: Marital conflict is one of the common problems in couple relationship that has been the interest of counselors and family therapists since its devastating effects. This study has been done to examine the role of defensive style and emotional schemas in marital conflicts. Methods: This study was a correlational one. The population consisted of parents of children kept in kindergarten in the city of Ardabil in the years of 92-93. A total of 240 parents (120 couples) were selected in a random sampling and answered the questionnaires about marital conflict (Sanaei and Barati, 1375), defensive styles (Andrews, shinee, and Bowen, 1993) and emotional schemas (Leahy, 2002). Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient and step to step regression. Results: The results showed that the relationship of the marital conflict variables and mature and immature defensive styles and emotional schemas are statistically significant. There was just, neurotic defensive style variables of other variables which was not statistically significant. Also, the results showed that immature defensive style has greatest role in increasing marital conflict. Conclusion: According to our findings, there is a relation between defensive style and emotional schema with marital conflict and they predict it significantly. Therefore, it is necessary to examine insufficient defensive style and emotional schema to reduce marital conflict thus, strategies are recommended to improve it.

Abstract

Introduction: Being infected with HIV, followed by AIDS, is accompanied with a wide range of psychological factors such as emotional regulation and emotional schemas, in connection with which the compliance of patients with the disease is affected. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to compare the cognitive emotion regulation strategies and emotional schemas in people with HIV and normal people.

Methods: The study was causal-comparative, cross-sectional. The inclusion criteria were selected and measured by cognitive excitement and emotion regulation (Garnefski et al., 2004) and emotional schemas (Leahy, 2002) tools. After data collection, data analysis by SPSS-16 program and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was performed.

Results: Analyzing data using Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) indicated that there were significant differences between the two groups in some subscales of cognitive emotion regulation (i.e. rumination (P = 0.001), putting into perspective (P = 0.003), and other-blame (P = 0.046) and emotional schemas (i.e. rumination (P = 0.001), emotional self-awareness (P = 0.001), uncontrollability (P = 0.0001), validation by others (P = 0.031), comprehensibility (P = 0.0001), blame (P = 0.0001), simplistic view of emotions (P = 0.049), higher values (P = 0.002), and acceptance of feelings (P = 0.0001). However, no significant difference was found between patients with HIV and normal controls in other subscales.

Conclusions: Considering the current results, addressing psychological aspects associated with HIV infection and particularly helping patients to improve their emotion regulation strategies and maladaptive emotional schemas is of great importance.

Therapeutic sessions Trans-diagnostic based emotion efficiency therapy were presented in 8 sessions over two months and the anxiety inventory (Beck & Steer, 1990), emotional schemas  )Suh et al  2019)  and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (Buysse et al, 1989)  were used to collect data. Data were analyzed methods of analysis of covariance in SPSS-25 software.
Results: The results showed that emotion efficiency therapy in the post-test period was effective in decreasing sleep quality (p <0.001) and reducing both components of emotional schemas (p<0.001) and these results were also stable in the post-test period (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, Trans-diagnostic based emotion efficiency therapy can be effective as timely interventions to decrease sleep quality and reduce emotional schemas of anxious nurses and this intervention can be used in medical centers.
