Comparison of the Attachment Situation in kindergarten and non- kindergarten Preschools in Tabriz
Introduction: Economical and social developments in recent years and increasing working women cause dramatic changes in the daily life of communities and the incidence of short-term separation of mother and child.
Aim: The purpose of this study is to compare the attachment situation of kindergarten and non-kindergarten children.
Methods: A comparative study design was used in this study. 128 kindergarten and 112 non-kindergarten children randomly selected for the study. They ranged in age from 4 to 6 years. Data were collected through demographic and kinships attachment questionnaires. The kinships questionnaires have 4 sub-items. Data were analyzed using statistical test such as t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient.
Finding: No Significant difference was observed between total attachment scores of kindergarten and non-kindergarten children(p=0/142). Comparison of children in kindergarten and non-kindergarten groups in “avoidance” sub-item showed significant differences (p=0/019). There was also high correlation between family economical status and total attachment score in kindergarten children.
Conclusions: Although short term separation of child from mother which causes an emotional stress for child, but some social and cultural conditions affect the attachment process formation and it alone cannot be counted as a major factor in the incidence of insecure attachment.
