Predicting the Impact of Early Maladaptive Schemas and Object Relations on the Severity of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder Symptoms

Introduction: Early maladaptive schemas and object relations are considered as two variables that influence the severity of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder symptoms. The present study aimed to predict the effect of early maladaptive schemas and object relations on the severity of obsessive-compulsive personality disorder symptoms.
Methods: The present study was conducted using a descriptive correlational method. The statistical population of the study was all students studying at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili during the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample size was selected through convenience sampling. The research instruments included Martukovich Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Questionnaire (2004), Young Early Maladaptive Schemas Questionnaire (1998), and Bell Object Relations Inventory (1986). Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis methods, with the help of SPSS 26 software.
Results: The results showed that the domains of Disconnection and Rejection, Impaired Autonomy and Performance, Overvigilance and Inhibition, Impaired Limits, and Object Relations had a positive and significant relationship with the severity of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder symptoms. However, the domain of other-directedness did not show a significant positive relationship.
Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that therapeutic interventions based on the identification and modification of early maladaptive schemas and the reconstruction of object relations can be effective in reducing the severity of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder symptoms.
