Abstract:   (12 Views)
Introduction: Perceived stress has a substantial adverse impact on the mental health and quality of life of women with cancer. Identifying protective psychological resources, particularly hope and psychological resilience, may provide an important basis for developing effective supportive and therapeutic interventions to improve patients' well-being. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life among women with cancer in Bandar Abbas, with hope and psychological resilience as mediating variables.
Methods: This descriptive-correlational study was conducted among women with cancer who attended Shahid Mohammadi Hospital in Bandar Abbas, Iran, in 2025. A total of 285 participants were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using the Cohen Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Snyder's Hope Scale, the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 through correlation analysis, regression analysis, and path analysis.
Results: The results indicated that perceived stress had a significant direct negative effect on quality of life (P < 0.001), whereas hope had a significant direct positive effect on quality of life (P < 0.001). Furthermore, hope and psychological resilience significantly mediated the relationship between perceived stress and quality of life (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Perceived stress is a significant determinant of poorer quality of life among women with cancer. Therefore, psychosocial interventions aimed at reducing perceived stress while enhancing hope and psychological resilience may represent effective strategies for improving the quality of life of this patient population.
