Introduction: Implementing educational programs to enhance the psychological well-being and foster the moral characteristics of students is of great importance. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of moral intelligence training on moral identity, adjustment, and academic incivility in female sixth-grade elementary students.
Methods: The current research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test control group model. The statistical population included all 4,128 girl sixth-grade students in Khorramabad during the 2023-2024 academic year. From this population, 30 eligible students were selected via simple random sampling and assigned to two groups: an experimental group (n=15) and a control group (n=15). Data were collected using the Moral Identity Questionnaire (Aquino & Reed, 2002), the Adjustment Inventory (Sinha & Singh, 1993), and the Academic Incivility Scale (Clark et al., 2015). Data analysis was performed using Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA) and Univariate Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) in SPSS software.
Results: The research results indicated that moral intelligence training significantly led to an increase in moral identity score (F=116.75, P<0.01), an increase in adjustment (F=89.916, P<0.01), and a decrease in academic incivility (F=80.675, P<0.01) in the intervention group compared to the control group among the girl students in the post-test.
Conclusion: Overall, the research findings suggest that moral intelligence training is an effective intervention for improving the moral identity, adjustment, and reducing academic incivility in sixth-grade students and can be used as a supplementary method. Utilizing this method by counselors and mental health professionals will help improve the quality of education. It is also suggested that these research findings be considered in the design and implementation of workshops and educational programs concerning moral intelligence training for sixth-grade girls.
