The Effect of Nursing Consultation on Anxiety of Tracheostomy Patient's Family

Introduction: The diagnosis and hospitalization of a family member disrupts the whole family structure. During this time, family members experience a change in role and feel fear, anxiety and insecurity. This study aimed to determine of the effect of Nursing Consultation on Anxiety of Tracheostomy Patient's Family admitted to shahid rajaei hospital of Shiraz city in 2017.
Methods: This study is Quasi-experimental study that in that Pretest-posttest plan with control group was used. All of the Tracheostomy Patient's Family, who referred to shahid rajaei hospital of Shiraz in first 6 months of 1396, was our statistical research community. 60 patients were selected Based on inclusion criteria and purposive sampling method and randomly divided into two groups of experimental and control by using a table of random numbers For intervention group, nursing consultation program was carried out from admission to discharge while for control group just routine was performed. Patient filled Spielberger's Anxiety Inventory before and after intervention. SPSS statistical software SPSS19 data using chi-square, Fisher's exact test, and independent t-test and paired T was performed..
Results: Results showed that no different between two groups of intervention and control about demographic characteristics. The mean Anxiety Score was 98/76±6/16 in intervention group, and 96.36±5.76 in the control group before intervention, which respectively reached to 71.00±7.88 and 96.16±5.20 after implementation of the intervention and this difference was Significant in intervention group (P≤0.001).
Conclusions: According to the results we can say that Nursing Consultation is effective in reducing Anxiety in Tracheostomy Patient's Family. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the Anxiety of Tracheostomy Patient's Family with a simple, low-cost, and effective intervention.
