Introduction: Nurses, as key pillars of the healthcare system, are exposed to workplace stress, which can cause various challenges for them. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of emotion regulation-based therapy on health anxiety, death obsession, and professional coping self-efficacy beliefs among nurses exhibiting symptoms of cyberchondria.
Methods: This study was a semi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The statistical population consisted of all nurses in the city of Borujerd, from whom 30 participants were purposively selected and randomly assigned to two groups: 15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group. Both groups were administered questionnaires measuring cyberchondria, health anxiety, death obsession, and professional coping self-efficacy beliefs. Subsequently, the experimental group underwent eight 90-minute sessions of emotion regulation-based therapy, while no intervention was provided to the control group. After completing the sessions, a posttest was conducted for both groups. Data analysis was performed using SPSS-27 software and analyzed through covariance analysis.
Results: The findings indicated that emotion regulation-based therapy had a statistically significant effect on reducing health anxiety, death obsession, and enhancing professional coping self-efficacy beliefs in nurses with symptoms of cyberchondria (p< 0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that emotion regulation-based therapy, by providing an opportunity to learn fundamental skills, serves as an effective tool for improving concerns related to physical illness and, in some cases, psychological symptoms among nurses.
